Create your own simple repeating pattern.
📖 Let Us Begin!
Look at a saree border or a floor tile. You will see the same design repeating again and again. That is a pattern! Patterns are all around us -- in nature, in art, and in numbers. When something repeats in the same order, it makes a pattern. Let us learn to find and make patterns.
Shape Patterns
In a shape pattern, shapes repeat in the same order.
Example 1: Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Circle, Square ...
The rule is: Circle, Square repeating.
Example 2: Triangle, Triangle, Circle, Triangle, Triangle, Circle ...
The rule is: Triangle, Triangle, Circle repeating.
Number Patterns
In a number pattern, numbers change in the same way each time.
Example 1: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 ... (add 2 each time) Example 2: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 ... (add 2 each time) Example 3: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 ... (add 5 each time)
Colour Patterns
Example: Red, Blue, Red, Blue, Red, Blue ...
The rule is: Red, Blue repeating.
To find the rule of a pattern, look at what repeats. That repeating part is called the "core" of the pattern.

⭐ Key Points to Remember
A pattern repeats in the same order.
To find the rule, look at what part keeps repeating.
Patterns can be made with shapes, colours, or numbers.
To extend a pattern, find the rule and keep going.
Number patterns often add or subtract the same number each time.
1. Write the rule for this pattern: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25.
2. Create your own shape pattern using two shapes. Write it out.
3. Extend this pattern by 3 more: 4, 8, 12, 16, ___, ___, ___.
🎨 Activity: Make Your Own Pattern
