Many important places and helpful people are found in our neighbourhood. Let us learn about them!

What Is a Neighbourhood?

A neighbourhood is the area around our home. It includes the houses, roads, shops, and other places near where we live. The people who live near us are called our neighbours.

Think about it: What places can you see near your home?

Important Places in Our Neighbourhood

Every neighbourhood has some important places that help people in many ways:

School: Children go to school to learn and study. Teachers teach us there.

Market / Shop: We buy vegetables, fruits, groceries, and other things from the market. Shopkeepers sell goods to us.

Hospital: When we are sick, we go to the hospital. Doctors and nurses take care of us there.

Post Office: Letters and parcels are sent and received at the post office. The postman delivers letters to our homes.

Park: Children play in the park. Families go there for fresh air and exercise.

Temple / Mosque / Church: People go to places of worship to pray.

Police Station: The police keep us safe. If there is any trouble, we can go to the police station for help.

Bank: People keep their money safe in a bank. They can also take money out when they need it.
